Families notified their soldiers will deploy

FORT RILEY, Kan. – Families of the 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division were notified prior to the Department of Defense announcement that their Soldiers are scheduled to deploy to Iraq this fall.
The Department of Defense announced May 19 that the 2nd HBCT, the "Dagger" Brigade, has deployment orders in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The deployment is scheduled to last 12 months. Family members of "Dagger" Soldiers will have the opportunity to obtain more detailed information during planned pre-deployment briefings when the brigade returns in mid-June from its 30-day rotation at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif.
For the duration the more than 3,700 Soldiers are deployed, Families will be provided full support from the 1st Inf. Div and Fort Riley. Fort Riley's state of the art Army Community Service facility serves as a central support center for Families of deployed Soldiers. The unit also will stand up a formal rear detachment command that will oversee all unit support functions on Fort Riley.
For security purposes, the specific deployment dates are not releasable. The deploying unit will have adequate time to prepare for deployment including its training rotation at the NTC.
