1ID uses firepower to blast through U.S Army Mega Recruiting Event

By 1ID Public Affairs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RELEASE NO. 23-007

FORT RILEY, Kan. – Soldiers assigned to 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, partnered with recruiters of the U.S. Army Kansas City Recruiting Battalion to conduct a swearing-in ceremony of approximately 51 Future Soldiers on April 18, 2023.

The Future Soldiers arrived on Fort Riley and conducted a tour of the installation. Their visit included the Digital Multi-Purpose Range Complex where for the first time many of the recruits witnessed an Army M2A3 Bradley firing at targets up to 2800 meters away.

“Opportunities like this provide an incredible chance for U.S. Army Soldiers to connect with the local community of Fort Riley and also allows us to give our Soldiers a chance to tell our Army story by engaging with Future Soldiers and Service-members,” said Lt. Col. Richard Montcalm, commander of 1st Sqdn., 4th Cav. Regt., 1st ABCT, 1st Inf. Div. “By doing so these future service members will really understand the type of environment and community that they are becoming a part of.”

With a variety of military occupational specialties in the group, Future Soldiers had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with Big Red One Soldiers about their military occupational specialty. At the oath-taking ceremony, the newly recognized Soldiers further familiarized themselves with equipment and tactical vehicles.

“I think it’s great for the 1st Inf. Div. to be able to partner with our local communities, and the surrounding U.S. Army recruiting companies and brigades,” said Cmd. Sgt. Maj. David Pelham, 1st Sqdn., 4th Cav. Regt. “By coming out, Future Soldiers get a preview of what they joined the Army to do, as well as share with our Soldiers why they chose to join the Army and become a part of such an elite profession.”

The Big Red One continues to prioritize Meet Your Army by connecting citizens to meet and engage with Soldiers.
