Colonel Patrick Kaine is a native of Oak Ridge, TN and received his commission as a Field Artillery officer from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2003.
COL Kaine began his career in B/1-39 FAR (MLRS), FT Stewart, GA where he served as a Platoon Leader from 2004-2005. During this assignment, COL Kaine deployed in support of OIF. Following this deployment, he was assigned to 1/75 Ranger Regiment where he served as the Battalion Assistant Fire Support Officer and Bravo Company Fire Support Officer from 2005-2007. During his time at 1/75, he deployed three times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
After completing the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School in 2008, he was assigned as Commander, A/3-27 FAR (HIMARS), 18
th Fires Brigade. As a battery commander, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of OEF. Following this deployment, he was assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment Headquarters, FT Benning, GA from 2010-2012 where he served as the Regimental Assistant Fire Support Officer and deployed twice in support of OEF as a Task Force FSO and Task force J35.
In 2013, COL Kaine attended the Command and General Staff College (CGSC). He was then assigned to the 3ID DIVARTY. While in DIVARTY, COL Kaine served as the Effects Coordinator and Chief of Operations. In 2015 he was assigned 1-41 FA where he served as the 1
st ABCT Fire Support Officer, 1-41 FA Operations Officer, and 1-41 FA Executive Officer. His final assignment at Fort Stewart was as the Chief of Operations for the 188
th Infantry Brigade, First Army.
Following his time at Fort Stewart, COL Kaine served as a Joint Fires and Targeting Planner and Operations Integration Cell Chief for the Joint Enabling Command, Joint Planning Support Element, Naval Station Norfolk, VA from 2017-2020.
In July 2020, COL Kaine assumed command of 1-7 FA, 2
nd BCT, 1
st Infantry Division while deployed to the Republic of Korea. He served as battalion commander until May 2022 when he took over as the G3, 1
st Infantry Division and immediately deployed to Poland. Following his time as the G3, COL Kaine attended the Army War College in Carlisle, PA.
COL Kaine’s previous assignment was the Field Artillery Human Resource Manager for the Senior Leader Development / Colonel’s Management Office (COMO).
Colonel Kaine is married to the former Aaron Akins from Glouster, VA.
