Colonel Travis Habhab graduated from Kansas State University and commissioned into Army Aviation in May 1998. He is a graduate of the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the Apache and Apache Longbow Helicopter Qualification Courses, the Aviation Captains’ Career Course, Texas A&M’s MBA program, Command and General Staff College, the Joint Firepower Control Course, the Air Assault Course, and the United States Army War College with a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies.
After flight school, COL Habhab served 2 years in the Republic of Korea, as the Squadron Adjutant and Platoon Leader in 1-6 Cavalry Regiment. Upon completion of the Aviation Captains’ Career Course, COL Habhab moved to Fort Hood, Texas where he served as an Assistant Operations Officer and commanded B Company, 1-227th Aviation Regiment “Reapers” during OIF II. After earning his Masters of Business Administration in 2007, COL Habhab became an Assistant Professor at the United States Military Academy, teaching Finance and Economics. At Ft Campbell and in Afghanistan from 2010-2012, COL Habhab served as the Battalion XO and S3 for 4-101st Assault Helicopter Battalion, followed by the Brigade XO for 159th Combat Aviation Brigade. COL Habhab then worked as the Senior Aviation Operations Trainer at the National Training Center. COL Habhab led the Army ROTC program at the University of Texas as the Professor of Military Science from 2013-2015. From 2015-2017, COL Habhab commanded 1-1 Attack Recon Battalion, 1 CAB, 1ID at Fort Riley. During his command, he deployed the Task Force Gunfighters to Afghanistan for 9 months. Following the Army War College, COL Habhab served as the G3 for the 1
st Cavalry Division for 12 months. Before leaving Fort Hood, he served as the interim Division Chief of Staff and the First Team’s Deputy Chief of Staff. COL Habhab was the Commander of 101 Combat Aviation Brigade, Ft Campbell, from 2020-2022, deploying the CAB to EUCOM, CENTCOM, and PACOM, along with fielding the Army’s newest CH-47 Company. Most recently, he worked in the Pentagon as the Executive Officer to the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army.
COL Habhab’s service includes deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. His awards and decorations include the two Legions of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, three Bronze Star Medals, Air Medal with Valor, two Air Medals, seven Meritorious Service Medals, Combat Action Badge, Master Army Aviator Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
COL Habhab and his wife, Tara, have two daughters, ages 21 and 17, and a 14 year old son.
