"Durable" Brigade

The 1st Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade is a sustainment brigade of the United States Army based at Fort Riley, Kansas. It provides logistics support to the 1st Infantry Division.

Activated in 2007, the unit is a modular brigade capable of a variety of actions. Though assigned to the 1st Infantry Division on a permanent basis, it is capable of independent operations and taking on subordinate units to fulfill large-scale sustainment operations for the United States Army.

Formed from the Division Support Command of the 1st Infantry Division, the Brigade carries the lineage and honors of the division dating back to World War I campaigns as early as 1917. Having also seen action in World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War, the brigade has numerous awards and decorations from its previous designation. The brigade has also seen three tours in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

LEADERSHIP
COL Charles L. Montgomery graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi (Hattiesburg) in 2001 and was commissioned into the Logistics Branch.COL Montgomery has served in various positions throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. He commanded the 123rd Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team,1st Armored Division located at Fort Bliss, Texas. Following Battalion Command, COL Montgomery served as the Senior Sustainment Trainer at one of three United States Army Combat Training Centers (CTC), The Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC), Hohenfels, Germany, 7th Army Training Command.COL Montgomery served as an Assignments Officer at the Human Resources Command (Fort Knox, Kentucky) serving the LG Majors population. COL Montgomery’s staff assignments include service within 3ID as a G5 Planner, 2IBCT S4, and 2IBCT SPO.COL Montgomery holds a degree in history from the University of Southern Mississippi and is a graduate of the U.S. Army’s School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) and the U.S. Air Force War College. His awards include operational campaigns and overseas medals for Iraq, South Korea, and Germany.

Command Sergeant Major Adam R. Bezanson is a native of Helena, Montana and he enlisted in the Army in August 2002 from Tucson, Arizona. CSM Bezanson attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and attended Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia where he was awarded the MOS of 92G. CSM Bezanson’s stateside assignments include HHC 1-505 Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), Echo Company, 1-505 PIR, Golf Company, 1-319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment (AFAR), Fort Liberty, North Carolina, HHC, Special Troops Battalion, I Corps, Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM), Washington, Joint Staff, Washington D.C.. Group Support Battalion (GSB), 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), United States Army Sergeant Major Academy, Fort Bliss, TX; 3D GSB, 3D Special Forces Group (Airborne). His overseas assignments are United States Forces Korea, Yongsan, Republic of Korea and USAREUR-AF in Wiesbaden, Germany. He has deployed to Iraq three times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Afghanistan twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).
