COMMANDING GENERAL'S MOUNTED COLOR GUARD (CGMCG)

Established in 1992, the Commanding General's Mounted Color Guard provides a living link to the United States Army's heritage from its home at Fort Riley, Kansas. The Troopers, Noncommissioned Officers, and Officers of the unit preserve and showcase the rich legacy of the U.S. Cavalry, embodying the discipline, tradition, and esprit de corps of America’s mounted forces. As representatives of both the historic cavalry and the storied 1st Infantry Division—“The Big Red One”—the Mounted Color Guard stands as a symbol of honor, professionalism, and heritage.

The unit serves as the social face of the 1st Infantry Division and the U.S. Army's military horsemen. Recognized as the nation’s premier Department of the Army mounted color guard, it travels across the country supporting a variety of missions. The unit's primary focus is performing Mounted Colors Presentations for ceremonies and parades; however, it also conducts exciting Cavalry Tactics Demonstrations. These demonstrations, which exhibit the skill and precision of 19th-century horsemanship, are performed for professional rodeos, community events, and parades, connecting the public to our nation's military history.

During the historic 250th anniversary of our nation, the Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard continues its mission of honoring the United States through these polished displays of cavalry horsemanship and military tradition. By participating in events both locally and nationally, the unit inspires pride and preserves the enduring traditions of those who have served before.
