COL Jeffrey W. Pickler

First Infantry Division Artillery Commander

COL Jeffrey W. Pickler commissioned in June 2001 as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery from the United States Military Academy.  He served as a Company Fire Support Officer and Battery Executive Officer in 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division from April 2002 until May 2004, deploying once in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  He later served as a Company Fire Support Officer in 2nd Ranger Battalion at Fort Lewis, Washington, where he deployed three additional times to Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.

Following the Field Artillery Captains’ Career Course, COL Pickler assumed responsibilities as the Battalion Fire Support Officer for 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry (Airborne) in the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) in Vicenza, Italy.  During a 15-month deployment to Operation Enduring Freedom, COL Pickler assumed command of the 173rd ABCT Headquarters Company.  Following redeployment and completion of command, COL Pickler moved to New York and attended Graduate School at Columbia University, with a follow-on assignment as a Company Tactical Officer and later in the Office of the Superintendent at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. 

After graduating from the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS in June 2014, COL Pickler served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer for 2nd Battalion, 8th Field Artillery in the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th ID at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.  Following his service with 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, COL Pickler moved to Washington, DC, assigned to the Joint Staff in the Chairman’s Action Group and later as Aide-de-Camp to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs from March 2016 to October 2019.  COL Pickler then commanded the “Angry Vikings” of 2nd Battalion, 12th Field Artillery in 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division from November 2019 to June 2021. Most recently, COL Pickler completed his War College Fellowship at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies and later served as the Marshall Center Chief of Staff.

COL Pickler is married to the former Amy Inge of Williamsburg, VA. They have four children, Everett (15), Linden (12), Eli (9), and Graham (5).
