COL Landgrave (Tom) Smith

Colonel Landgrave (Tom) Smith is a native of Norman, Oklahoma and entered the Army in May 2003 as an Armor officer.

Previous operational assignments include serving as the commander, 4th Squadron, 10th U.S. Cavalry at Fort Carson, CO from 2019-2021, Brigade Operations Officer for 2ABCT, 1CD (Black Jack) at Fort Cavazos, TX, Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer for 1-5 CAV (Black Knights), Company Commander in 2-70 AR (Thunder) and 1-63 AR (Dragon), Brigade Chief of Operations 2ABCT, 1ID at Fort Riley Kansas, and Scout Platoon Leader and Troop XO in 3-7 CAV (Garry Owen) at Fort Stewart Georgia.

Other assignments include Maneuver Captains Career Course (MCCC) small group leader at the Maneuver Center of Excellence, Armor Colonels Human Resource manager and Operations Officer at Senior Leader Development, Office of Colonels Management (SLD-COMO), and as the Division Chief, Global Integration Division under the Joint Staff J5 Deputy Directorate for Global Integration (DDGI). 

COL Smith graduated from the United States Military Academy with a degree in Political Science. He holds Master’s Degrees in National Security Strategy from the National War College and in Operational Studies and Military Science from the School of Advanced Warfighting, Marine Corps University.

His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Ranger Tab, and Combat Action, Airborne, and Air Assault badges. His foreign military awards include the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge. He is a recipient of the Order of Saint George and Order of Saint Maurice.

COL Smith is married to the former Jessica Roth of Louisville, KY. They are the proud parents of two daughters, Alysa (15) and Kaitlyn (14).
