Major General Monté L. Rone

Commanding General, 1st Infantry Division

Major General Monté L. Rone enlisted as a Soldier on September 11th, 1990, and served five years. He was commissioned in the Infantry upon graduation from Eastern Michigan University in 1995. MG Rone has served in Airborne, Mechanized/Armor, and Stryker formations. His first assignment was with the 3rd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After completion of the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, MG Rone commanded Bravo Company and Headquarters and Headquarters Company in the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado.

MG Rone’s later command assignments include Commander of the 1st Cavalry Division (Forward), Poznan, Poland in support of OPERATION ATLANTIC RESOLVE; Brigade Commander of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado, where he also served as the Deputy Commander for Train Advise Assist Command – East (TAAC-East), in Afghanistan; Battalion Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, where he also served as the Commander of Task Force Thunderhorse, Laghman Province, Afghanistan.

His key staff assignments include serving as the Director, Army Chief of Staff Coordination Group; Director, Combined/Joint Operations (CJ3) for Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, Djibouti; G3 Operations Officer for the 1st Armored Division; and Infantry Branch Assignment Officer, U.S. Army Human Resources Command.

MG Rone’s most recent assignment was at Fort Moore, GA serving as the Commandant of the United Stated Army Infantry School, Chief of the Infantry, and Director of the Soldier Lethality Cross Functional Team.  MG Rone served as the Deputy Commanding General (Support) and later Deputy Commanding General (Maneuver) of the 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Cavazos, Texas. MG Rone also served as the Deputy Chief of Staff Operations, Multinational Corps Northeast, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Szczecin, Poland.

MG Rone holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Auditing from Eastern Michigan University, a Master of Science in Public Policy Administration from Georgetown University, and a Master’s in strategic studies from the United States Army War College. His operational experience includes deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, East Africa, and Eastern Europe.
