Fort Riley provides an update on March 20 gate incident

Following the March 20 incident at Trooper gate, Fort Riley, the civilian Department of the Army Security Guard, a 62-year-old male, remains assigned to administrative duties.

The 22-year-old male civilian suspect who was driving the vehicle that struck the active vehicle barrier was medically released from Irwin Army Community Hospital March 21.

The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division’s investigation is ongoing.

To protect the integrity of the investigation, no further information will be released at this time

Fort Riley Military Police respond to gate incident


On Monday morning at approximately 6:50 a.m., Fort Riley Military Police received a call about an incident at Trooper Gate. The initial report states that a suspect drove through the gate, was stopped by the automatic vehicle barrier, and after the suspect exited the vehicle, the situation escalated, ultimately leading to the suspect being shot by a guard. The driver of the vehicle is receiving medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries and Army CID and the Fort Riley Military Police are investigating the incident.

Since this incident is under investigation, no further information will be released at this time.
