Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic violence awareness month was first introduced back in 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic violence. Since 1987, October has been the month where domestic violence and its victims are observed. 3 out of 4 Americans know of another person that has, or is being abused by another individual, but many times nothing is done about it. It affects not only women, but men and children of all different races, status, religions, and culture. No one is immune to it.

Fall Apple Day 2023
Five more days!! While the post is open to the public for the Fort Riley Fall Apple Day Festival, visitors who do not have a valid DoD ID will require a pass. To beat the rush and long lines, apply online at the link below, or get a pass the day of the event by stopping by the Visitor Control Center (VCC) located just outside Henry Gate, exit 301, I-70. The VCC will be open from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday.

We observe Patriot Day on September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance for the thousands of lives lost in the 9/11 attacks.

Medal of Honor Recipient, Cpt. Larry L. Taylor
WASHINGTON — Former U.S. Army Capt. Larry L. Taylor, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, will receive the Medal of Honor at the White House on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, for his heroic actions and conspicuous gallantry while serving as a helicopter pilot with Troop D (Air), 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division, during the Vietnam War in 1968. . .

Suicide Prevention Month
The theme this year is “Being a light in someone’s life,” and includes keeping the lines of communication open. Advice for friends and family who suspect a loved one is considering suicide: • Ask, “Are you thinking about killing yourself?” • Keep them safe by reducing access to lethal items or places. • Be there by listening to and learning about what the individual is thinking and feeling. • Help them connect to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline number (call or text 988) and the Crisis Text Line number (741741). • Stay connected after a crisis.

The 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, continues their redeployment as we recently welcomed home more Dagger Brigade Soldiers. The Dagger Brigade's mission was to train the host country's security forces and enhance interoperability with our NATO Allies and partners by building enduring relationships.
